Orange terpenes, Pine oil, emulsifiers, fragrance ingredients
What are terpenes?
Terpenes are organic compounds with 10 carbon atoms that are usually produced by plants.
The pine tree is the largest source of terpenes. Other major sources of terpenes are the essential oils derived from citrus fruits, which are chiefly grown in Brazil and Florida.
Most terpenes are of GRAS status (Generally recognised as safe), conform to FDA (US Food and Drug Administration requirements) and are recognised by FEMA (Flavour Extracts Manufacturing Association).
They are approved for use in the preparation of foodstuffs. The main area of application is for the manufacture of Flavours and Fragrances with Cleaning Materials being the other primary field of use.
Terpenes are readily biodegradable, virtually insoluble in water and do not attack the ozone layer.
